When choosing a gold pendant, take the chain you plan to wear to the shop. The links may be slim enough to fit, yet the small tag beside the clasp can be wider than the loop at the top of the pendant.
Try the actual chain
Ask the jeweller to show you how the chain end passes through the pendant loop. If it catches, stop and try a wider opening. A close-up photo with measurements can narrow down the options before your visit.
See how the pendant hangs
Try it on and look from the front and side. With an initial pendant, for example, does the letter face forward or sit at an angle? Ask whether your chain can support the pendant’s weight during everyday wear.
Confirm what the price covers
A display necklace can be made up of two separately priced pieces. Check whether the quote includes the chain. If you are buying only the pendant, match its design, purity, recorded weight and price to the receipt.
