How to Fit a Gold Pendant to Your Favourite Chain

The little tag beside a necklace clasp can be wider than the chain itself. If you’re buying a pendant for a chain you already wear, bring it along so you can check that the whole end fits through.

Check the opening

Ask the jeweller to thread the chain through the pendant loop. If the end catches, try a pendant with a larger opening. When shopping from photos, include a close-up and measurements of the chain end to help narrow the selection.

Check the view in the mirror

Look at the pendant from the front and side. An initial that looks upright on the counter might tilt once it’s on your chain. Ask the jeweller whether the chain is suitable for the pendant’s weight and your intended use.

Ask for the pendant price

Find out whether the price on display covers the pendant alone or the complete necklace. If buying the pendant separately, check its design, purity, weight and price against the receipt.
